ESA Paris Astrolabe

A large scale project for the European Space Agency to concept, design and build a visitor centre at their headquarters in Paris. Following on from the ESA Mars project, ESA invited us to tender for their Astrolabe visitors centre in Paris, a tender which we subsequently won. The main focus was interactive content which could be updated in the future to ensure the Astrolabe could be kept relevant without constant refit. To this end, a custom content management system was developed that ran on a local server, providing content to all interactive touch tables and screens.

A custom touch table was designed and built along with kiosks, projection graphics, a large LED wall and VR headsets. The suit display for the VR area was 3D printed and custom upholstered to look like a replica whilst a linking line graphic runs through out the room, guiding users to each section.

This project encompassed a wide variety of design disciplines including printed graphics and wall vinyl, 3D visuals including a walkthrough to show the client, video animation, audio design and interactive applications.
